The Swedish Light My Fire Knife

Sweedish Light My Fire Knife apartI have had the Swedish Light My Fire knife for a couple of weeks now. I know that most people that don’t spend a substantial time in the woods seem to think that a large survival knife or machette is required in the woods but this could not be further from the case.

Most of the top survivalist in the world recommend a relieved short 4″ knife. The smaller 4″ knife gives the user more control to do finer work and detailed cutting. Although chopping a tree down is fun, it’s the little tasks such as making a shelter and setting traps that will save your life in the woods.

Light My Fire has been in the outdoor product manufacturing for years producing everything from titanium sparks to tealight lanterns. When I heard that they were teaming up with Mora that has been making razor sharp tuff knifes for over 120 years I knew I’d have to try one out.

The Concept

The concept for the Swedish Fire knife was simple; just combine the time tested blade of a Mora Knife into an affordable format that integrates Light My Fires Swedish Scout Fire steel to provide one of the best survival knifes on the market. With a price tag of under $30, Light My Fire has hit its mark providing an extremely sharp and durable general purpose survival knife that is great for everything from starting fires to cleaning large game.

Light My Fire Knife Design

Sweedish Light My Fire Knife BladeAt first glance the bright safety orange of the sheath and handle make it look like a toy. Made from injection molded polypropylene the overall feel of the knife is comfortable but not fancy. The majority of the expense is clearly dedicated to the flexible and durable blade made from Sandvik 12c27 stainless steel with Scandinavian grind.

To provide more grip on the Swedish Fire knife the integrated a rubber handle. At the end of the handle you can find the Light My Fire’s Swedish Fire steel Scout that clicks into the end of the handle snuggly for safe keeping. Positioned at the end of the handle the Fire steel provides a little more ergonomics to the handle. Removal of the fire steel although requiring just a simple twist – it held very firmly during testing.

Swedish Fire Steel Scout

The integrated Swedish Fire steel Scout will deliver 3,000 strikes, working wet and dry at any altitude or weather condition producing a shower of 5,400 degree sparks every time. Although the Fire steel works great at producing a spark every time, I feel that the rod could have been a 1/2″ longer. The shorter rod can be hard to handle when using the back of the blade to strike a spark. I feel that with an extra 1/2″ of Fire steel striking a spark would be more comfortable and more reliable every time and reduce the dangers of cutting ones self.

Light My Fire Knife Sheath

With a standard injection molded drop sheath there is not to much to raveSweedish Light My Fire Knife Sheath about. The sheath is stiff and durable just like the rest of the knife. The belt clip can be unclipped from the closed position (requiring some force) so that you can slip it on and off your belt. The knife securely locks into the sheath for right handed only carry. Feeling very sturdy on my belt as well as when clipped to my bag I had no worries of the knife slipping off or falling out of the sheath.

The Swedish Light My Fire Knife exceeded all my expectations! Although I already knew that Mora made great knives I had my doubts about the quality of this one. As you can expect I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of not only the sharp tough Mora Blade but also the fluid thought and effective design that the Light My Fire brand brought to the table. After torture testing this knife for myself I can say without a doubt that this knife is Military Hunting and Fishing tested and Approved!

I like this knife so much as a survival item that I will be purchasing more of them for my friends and family! These are the perfect gift for the Outdoorsman, Hunter, Survivalist, Prepper, Boy Scout or anything in between. At a price of $30 you’d be hard pressed to find another quality knife with these features!
