Remington’s Trigger Recall, Faulty Design!

remington s trigger recallYet again this week we have Remington in the news. Remington has announced that they will be replacing millions of triggers for owners of the widely popular Remington Model 700 series. Remington’s Trigger Recall is not the only recall that we have reported on this week. Earlier this week we announced that the Remington was recalling and replacing the Remington 887 for a slam fire issue.

Remington 700 series riddled with problems

As far back as 2010 we have know about the Remington 700 series faulty trigger problem when CBS put out a documentary called “Remington Under Fire: A CNBC Investigation,” that explored decades of coverups of design defects by the Remington company. Remington continued to deny any defects in its production line until friday when a nation wide settlement was filed in federal court. Now the company has agreed to replace the triggers in roughly 7.85 million rifles.

Remington’s Trigger Recall Settlement

This settlement involves multiple cases including one brought in 2013 by Ian Pollard of Concordia, Missouri, who claimed that his Remington 700 Rifle Trigger malfunctioned on multiple occasions causing the rifle to fire, and a similar class action suite in Washington State.

In court filings, Remington denied the allegations, calling them “inaccurate, misleading, (and) taken out of context.” And last year, a judge dismissed several of the claims, including negligence and fraudulent concealment. But by this July, the parties announced they were working out details of a “nationwide class settlement” involving the controversial gun.
