Active Duty Military

Military personnel, excluding reservists, who are stationed outside of the Great Lakes State, and who, at the time of enlistment, were residents of Michigan and who have maintained resident status, may purchase any hunting license that does not require a separate application for $1. The individual must present leave papers, duty papers, military orders or other evidence verifying that he or she is stationed outside the state, and a valid Michigan driver’s license. The hunting licenses, available at all license agents and DNRE Operations Service Centers, are valid for up to two weeks during the established season. The license buyer can designate the exact hunting period.

Persons serving in the U.S. Military, who, at the time of enlistment, were residents of Michigan and who have maintained resident status for the purposes of obtaining a driver license or voting and who are stationed outside the state, may purchase any hunting license that does not require a separate application for $1.00. The individual must present leave papers, duty papers, military orders or other evidence verifying that he or she is stationed outside the state, and a Michigan Driver License or voter registration. These licenses, available at all license agents and DNR Operations Service Centers, are valid for up to two weeks during the established season. The license buyer can designate the exact hunting period.

NOTE: A military person stationed in Michigan may purchase a resident license at any licensing agent location, regardless of residency status.

Disabled Veterans

A resident who has been determined by the U.S. Department of Veteran Administration to be permanently and totally disabled and entitled to veteran benefits at the 100% rate (with proof of same) is eligible to purchase ANY of the senior licenses. In order to prove your eligibility for the veterans discount you must obtain a letter from the Veterans Administration stating that you are totally and permanently disabled and eligible for benefits at the 100% rate. DNR will perform random audits to verify this information.

SENIOR FISHING LICENSE FOR PERSONS WHO ARE BLIND AND VETERANS WITH A DISABILITY

This excerpt of statute:
-allows a person who is legally blind to purchase a senior fishing license,
regardless of age;
-allows a veteran who is 100% disabled to obtain senior hunting and fishing licenses.

A resident of Michigan who has been determined by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs to be permanently and totally disabled (for a disability other than blindness) is eligible to purchase senior hunting and trapping licenses from any license agent. A letter from the Veterans Administration stating the person is totally and permanently disabled and eligible for veterans benefits at the 100-percent rate is required.

Documentation of eligibility from the Veterans Administration shall be in the possession of a veteran using these licenses.

A veteran who has been determined to have a 100 percent disability or is rated as individually unemployable by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs may participate in the Youth Firearm and 100 Percent Disabled Veteran Firearm Deer Hunting Days, Sept. 24-25, 2011, on all lands in Michigan.

Documentation from the Veterans Administration shall be in the possession of a veteran participating in this hunt. Eligible hunters with a firearm or combination license may take an antlered or antlerless deer during this special two-day season. All hunters participating in this season must wear hunter orange.
